Dates Announced for 2010 US Air Force Cycling Classic (Arlington, VA) – Arlington Sports, Inc. is proud to announce the dates for the 2010 edition of the Air Force Cycling Classic, June 12-13. The two-day format will continue the Classic’s tradition of providing greater opportunities for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities to participate in this National Capital Region signature event.
The weekend’s events will begin on Saturday, June 12th, with the Air Force Cycling Classic Clarendon Cup, the criterium race that highlights the famous 1km course around the Clarendon Metro. The day’s featured Men’s Pro race begins shortly after noon and will again highlight cycling’s top Professionals.
On Sunday, June 13th, cycling enthusiasts of all abilities will be able to ride on the Air Force Cycling Challenge’s Crystal Ride. Participants can ride up to 3 ½ hours on the car-free, 12.5km course. Following this amateur ride, the Men’s and Women’s Professionals will race again, with most of the nation’s top cyclists expected to be in attendance.

We're also excited to see it becoming a challenging part of the national cycling circuit," said Maj. Gen. Darrell D. Jones, commander, Air Force District of Washington, Andrews Air Force Base, Md. "As a community partner in the NCR, we are proud to offer two-days of world-class events for professionals and amateurs. We hope everyone will come out and join 'their' United States Air Force in this premier cycling classic, focused on riders of all ages and abilities, and their families."
Participants in the Air Force Cycling Challenge Crystal Ride will again be able to earn a gold medal by completing 8 laps in under 3 ½ hours. A silver medal is earned by riding 4 laps, and a bronze for 2 laps.
"Building this event into an entire weekend of cycling is a great benefit to the participants, spectators and the Arlington community." said Jay Fisette, County Board Chairman. "Being the Year of the Bike here in Arlington County, this event offers a great opportunity to celebrate a sport that is growing in importance and popularity."
